Nathaniel just looked back down in silence.
She was right. It was his fault for taking it seriously.
When he had to face the reality of things again, it hurt too much.

Lucinda stood still in silence.

She knew it did, but to hear him say aloud that she was hurting him felt strange.
“You’re being ridiculous. If you feel like you’ve been hurt too many time and you can’t take it anymore, all you have to do is give up and leave. I did the same thing, didn’t I? If you can’t stand it, then you might as well just give up,” she said, shook off his hand and strode into the villa without looking back.
She didn’t close the door like she did earlier though.
Nathaniel sighed. She was right. He had hurt her uncountable times before.
Now, he was just getting a taste of the same medicine.

With a heavy sigh, he stood up and went to the back garden to get a broom. Then he went back out and started sweeping the fallen leaves.
